March of the Machine: The Aftermath – Release Info, Spoilers, And Key Dates

March of the Machines: The Aftermath is not your typical Magic: The Gathering set. In fact, it seems that more players than not are somewhat confused as to what the set is and what it will contain. If you’re one such player, worry not, today we’ll cover everything you need to know about this less-than-usual set. Let’s start with the basics.

March of the Machines: The Aftermath is a “micro set”, meaning it won’t contain as many cards as other Standard releases. However, the cards will be Standard legal all the same – Making it a rare fifth Premier set for the year. The set serves as an Epilogue to the Phyrexian story arc of the last four sets. Its’ purpose is to tie up loose ends in the story and set the stage for new sets moving forward.

With the basics out of the way, you may have a bit better understanding of what this set is and why it exists. However, if you find that you still have unanswered questions, you’re not alone. Let’s break down some of the finer details, including the release date, what the packs contain, what new products it will be introducing, and the spoilers.

Key Dates

Judging by the product line, I think it’s safe to say that things like Prerelease don’t apply to this set. So, the only significant date we have right now is the release date.

Release Date: May 12, 2023

Storyline

This set picks up right where March of the Machine end off. Here’s what Wizards have given us so far:

What is left when the dust settles after the epic four-part Phyrexian story arc. The very fabric of the Multiverse has fundamentally changed. Aftermath serves an epilogue, tying up some loose ends and starting new beginnings.

Mending The Multiverse

Some very big changes are coming along with the conclusion of the MOM main set. That said, this Aftermath set is a bridge between whatever wreckage we have remaining and the Wilds of Eldraine. I imagine the storyline will involve some level of mending the multiverse to a point where characters can once again walk between planes.

Unlikely Guests

With the multiverse going to be fundamentally different, I think we could see some very unlikely visitors come to Eldraine. You’d expect to see Oko on the Plane but what about Teferi, Omnath, Chandra, or even the Eldrazi? I think each of these is a possibility.

Closure

I said this in some of my other articles about the upcoming sets as well but I think The Phyrexians are going to succeed, to some extent. That said, I doubt if all of the good guys will make it through this one. I think March of the Machine is going to leave us with a cliffhanger – More specifically, with the fate of a beloved planeswalker uncertain.

If I’m right, this means we would learn the fate of said hero/heroine, in this Epilogue. After all, one of the few things we know for certain is that the Aftermath set will be “tying up loose ends.”

March of the Machine: The Aftermath Spoilers

We have no official spoilers at this point and we probably won’t for a while. Given that, it’s hard to speculate on what we may see as of now. Once we have some concrete info as to what is going on in March of the Machine, we’ll have a clearer picture.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is March of the Machine: The aftermath?

March of the Machines: The aftermath is a “micro set” that will wrap up the loose ends of the March of the Machine main set.

Will MOM: The Aftermath Be Draftable?

No. There are no Draft boosters for this set. Therefore, you probably won’t be able to have a Draft.

Is The Set Standard Legal?

Yes. The set won’t contain as many cards as a regular set but all cards from the set will be Standard legal.

Is The Multiverse Ending With This Set?

Not likely. While Wizards has made it clear that the Multiverse will not be the same after this, don’t think it’s ending. After this set, MTG returns to Eldrane and then moves on to Ixalan for “The Lost Caverns Of Ixalan. So, judging from this, I think travel between planes will remain a thing to some extent.

End Step

I see a lot of confusion and misinformation going around about this weird little mini-set. So, I’m happy to be able to provide players who may in the dark with some information. All in all, I’m pretty excited to see what these new Boosters will contain and if this is something WOTC will continue to do in the future.
