The Brothers’ War Arena Release Date

Wizards of the Coast has made some big changes with The Brothers’ War release schedule. Magic’s newest upcoming set hits store shelves on November 18th, 2022, with physical prerelease set to take place a week earlier. The digital release of The Brothers’ War, however, has been pushed back. The set will now release on MTG Arena and Magic Online later than usual.

The Brothers’ War releases on MTG Arena and Magic Online Tuesday, November 15, 2022, a full four days after the start of tabletop prerelease events.

In this article, I’ll go over everything you need to know about the Arena release schedule. I’ll also list all of the important dates so you’ll be ready for everything the set has to offer.

When Does The Brothers’ War release on MTG Arena?

Arena Release Updates

Wizards of the Coast recently announced some pretty big changes to The Brothers’ War release schedule, particularly concerning the set’s Arena release. These changes will also apply to the following two sets: Phyrexia: All Will Be One, and Rise of the Machine.

Here’s the most important part of the update:

“Two updates are going to make The Brothers’ War Prerelease events—starting November 11—the can’t-miss events of the fall.

First, at Prerelease events held at participating stores, you’ll now be able to purchase all product in any quantity during the Prerelease window. Set Boosters? You can get them. Collector Boosters? Kick off that collection early. Draft Boosters, Bundles, Commander decks, and Jumpstart Boosters? Yes, yes, yes, and yes.

Second, we’re going to continue a test we started with Streets of New Capenna and have the tabletop Prerelease come before the digital release. That means that November 11 is the first day you can get a chance to play with The Brothers’ War, and you can only do so through your local game store. In fact, we’re trying this again for the following two sets as well—Phyrexia: All Will Be One and March of the Machine.

For The Brothers’ War, the digital release on Magic: The Gathering Arena and Magic Online will take place on November 15.”

This change in the release schedule is a long time in the coming. Local game stores have been pushing for paper releases to come first in order to drive player attendance and overall excitement. They’ve also been pushing for all of the physical products to be available immediately upon prerelease to capitalize on that excitement.

The delayed MTG Arena release does make testing for tournaments harder. But still, the change has been generally well received by players as well as LGSs.

I started playing Magic in 2015 after impulsively buying a fat-pack of Khans of Tarkir. It didn't take long for me to fall in love with the game, and it's been a big part of my life ever since. Nowadays, I play moslty Modern, Commander, and Limited, but also enjoy keeping up with Standard. Whatever the format, I always find a way to brew up janky decks, convince myself they're great, get proven wrong, and love every second of it.
